My eyes are closed and my head rests back on the seat- holding on until the plane levels out.
I hold my breath. My arms reach across either side of me, and hold those boys back in their seats.
The sounds and bumps of a plane taking off make me uneasy, the blood rushes to my feet, and I find myself praying for it to be over…

 

I whisper to the boys- Soon. Just lean back. I’ll pick that toy up in a minute. Just a few more moments.

And then the blood runs back into my heart, and I unclench their hands, and I realize they’ve been laughing the entire time…
